The job market as we know it today

For those of you who have been on the job market for a few years, you have probably noticed that it is currently undergoing major transformations. A few years ago, we talked about the Leisure Society, Freedom 55, the balance between work and family, etc.

A specific terminology now attests to the new realities of the rapidly changing job market.

This new terminology encompasses terms such as technology, in-house training, competencies recognition services, transferable skills and competencies, the ability to adapt to change quickly, job cuts, the ageing workforce and its human resources development implications, the declining birth rate and its consequences, etc. And we all know that those terms are only a fraction of the new concepts that reflect the evolving reality of the labour market.

What does this new reality mean to employees and employers? How does this reality translate into practice in their daily lives? What are the challenges that await the employer and the employee in reconciling their respective expectations?

The employer will offer training and development opportunities to facilitate the transfer of competencies and skills, to strengthen the ability of workers to adapt to change quickly, and to retain his competent employees during a workforce renewal so the transfer of skills and competencies is maximised.

Against that background, the employee will need to be open and flexible. He will also need to show his dedication to the employer and showcase how his experience, personal abilities and professional skills compounded can benefit the employer in his various undertakings.

How do both parties benefit? The employee benefits from the recognition of his or her competencies as well as the opportunity to remain on the job market longer if he or she wishes so. As for the employer, he benefits from the accrued knowledge available as professional skills sharpen with time and experience. We can even say that sharp professional skills sometimes come with white hair!

Where is the next generation? Did we guide it well? Why is it difficult to master French and English very well? Motivation, passion….

To know more about it, we are here to advise you!
